Roxbourne
Middle School
The school
was opened in 1938 to provide education for children entering the
newly built estates of Metroland. In its time, the building was
a gem of architecture and offered the most up-to-date facilities.
In 1972 an extra block was added and several classrooms were adapted
for use as specialist areas following the school’s redesignation
as a Middle School rather than a Junior school. We have a large
hall, twelve classrooms, an ICT suite, a music room, a technology
workshop, a library and a food technology area. A large new classroom
was built in Autumn 2005.

The
school has undergone gradual and consistent refurbishment over past
years. We make it a priority to provide an orderly, pleasant and
stimulating environment in which pupils and staff spend many hours. |
| We have two
playgrounds and a large, pleasant field. The grounds are attractive
and well-planted to make an appealing environment in which to learn.
A Memorial Garden was established in September 2001. A pupil, Aidan
Gordon, died and pupils raised over £5,000 in a year. With the
help and guidance of a professional designer, the pupils created their
own garden. It offers a haven of peace for reflection in this busy
world, in which children are encouraged to ponder on eternal values. |
